Pen

Pens are my grounding roots. There is no more clearly defined medium than black and white. It either exists or it does not. The canvas is blank or has been altered. There is no in-between.

One of the things I love most about working with pens is their unforgivable nature. Because there's no room for elimination, pens give you an ultimatum to either take your time or just go for it. 

That daring and bold presence of pens is something I humbly respect. They challenge me into the unknown by creating lines, dots, curves and other shapes without inexcusable hesitancy. They push me to give the blank canvas meaning, and to grow something from each stroke of the pen. 

Pens keep me humble and liberate me all at once.

But soon, I needed color and warmth again. My drawn and depicted world needed to have more vibrancy.

 

As much as I had enjoyed and appreciated my time working with alcohol inks, its potent and harsh use of rubbing alcohol deterred me from trying this avenue. 

In my creative journey searching for the next colorful companion, I discovered a unique ink that embraced its natural tie to water...
